In a recent coaching session with a young woman, we discovered that she, like many others, did not understand the link between the mind and heart.

If our hearts and minds aren’t in alignment with one another, it’s not possible for us to live from the symphonic place that carries us with joy through our lives. It’s essential for us to be in tune with our heart since it is most often from where we lead our lives. Our heart is fooling us if

it tells us to literally or metaphorically deceive, lie, or steal. We aren’t living from our true authentic selves. We can master the art of telling our heart the truth, so when it does lie to us, deceive us with self-talk, or attempts to keep us wound up about certain life circumstances, we can quickly defeat those thoughts with Truth.

When we let these thoughts take hold of us, we react to life situations without truth, we feel less about ourselves lowering our confidence, and we stay stressed out over circumstances which we may have no control.

In this person’s particular situation there is a struggle to consistently accomplish something that is healthy for her and that she passionately wants to do. As much as she tells herself she wants to do it, and knows it will change the dynamic of her life; she tries, and it doesn’t happen and doesn’t understand why. So, she remains stuck in this rut. The rut of not achieving what she wants to do, and feeling less about herself. And then, the unhealthy self-talk starts.

I can’t do this. I am a failure. I am so inconsistent. I try and fail. I will never get out of here!

This list of lies can go on and on. Many of us have them every day. Whether self-inflicted or from an outside source, there is a way for us to overcome and move into and act on what we know will be healthier and make us feel better ourselves.

How Can we Move Beyond these Moments?

I’m not stating all you have to do is follow the steps below and suddenly things will change. But, what I am saying is that if you will keep these steps buried in your heart and the forefront of your mind for each circumstance, and practice them daily, you will find you are achieving those things you set out to do.

Let’s say that you have a tough time achieving something that you sincerely want to do. You have realized that each time you try to do it, something in you or outside influences hinder you from doing it. Let’s use food intake as an example:

You know that you want to lose some weight. There is candy in the house, and you don’t want to eat it, but you do. You have tried over and over to abstain, but the harder you try, the more you want the candy. What can you do?

Five Steps to Put To Memory To Create Change

  1. You know your challenge (eating something that does not help you achieve your goal).
  2. You take responsibility for the challenge ( I know I am doing something I don’t want to do)
  3. You adjust your mindset ( I know that I can lose weight)
  4. You create a resolution (I tell myself I don’t eat that anymore)
  5. You take action (I don’t eat the candy. Over time with consistent effort, you lose weight.

If you want to achieve your goal, you will do what is necessary to accomplish it. In each of the above steps, an action is required and each step starts with “you.” It is up to each of to take the steps in faith that a transformation will take place, in this case, in our body.

Action is the antidote to despair.

Joan Baez

These actions steps can be implemented in any challenging situation or circumstance we face. First place in your mind that you can and believe it in your heart. You tell your body what it will do and as you put forth the effort, you will get results.
