After having my coffee this morning, I was standing at my kitchen sink, and I thought of a commercial advertising the Mr. Kleen Magic Eraser. I wondered if this hidden jewel underneath my sink that I was saving for walls might clean a coffee pot. My coffee pot is an automatic percolator made of stainless steel. It doesn’t take long for the oils and stain from coffee to build-up on the inside of the pot and filter basket that holds the coffee grounds.

Without a good cleaning for months, I wondered if the Magic Eraser might be as good on a coffee pot as it is on walls and stovetops.
It amazed me as I made the first swipe across the build-up of coffee inside the filter basket. One swipe made more of an impression than ten or twenty with a brush or sponge. I kept going and ended up cleaning the filter basket, spreader and pump.

Afterward, I took the remainder of my Magic Eraser and began a circular motion of swiping the inside walls of the percolator. Again, amazed! My coffee pot now looked brand new on the inside! Even though I kept it clean on the outside, this was the first time since I purchased it, it was so clean and shiny on the inside it looked new.

My thoughts carried me to our hearts and circumstances that happen throughout our lives. Some are good and some bad. Some are happy and some sad. Some are deserving of celebration, and some bring deep and writhing pain. Too many times those hurt, sad, and harrowing moments stay buried in our hearts, and we unnecessarily carry extra baggage for years. If this has happened in your heart, you know what I mean. We can wonder if these wounds, flaws, and blemishes will ever end. After all, they interrupt the plans for our lives. I thought about how we work hard on the outside making sure we appear just right, but what about the inside? Are we taking care of that part?

Like that coffee pot and all its parts, Jesus whitewashes our insides with a translucent touch. Our Creator offers an invitation to make us clean and purify our hearts. Have you heard that call? The first step is in the acceptance and then to inviting healing. Whatever area you might have difficulty, there is an answer and a way through Jesus to cleanse it from your heart. I think of the heart as a cup that requires daily cleansing. Just as a coffeepot makes coffee without full flavor when left stained, so does a heart show its need for Jesus to cleanse through the things we think, say and do. Thankfully, just like the filter basket sparkles with the magic eraser, so can our hearts through Jesus, only better!

  1. I like the analogy of Jesus being like the Magic Eraser. He does erase our sins when we seek His forgiveness and makes us clean and new. May we all take the time to humble ourselves before our Lord and seek and receive His forgiveness today. Blessings!
