When I was in my early 20’s, I began what became a 5-year career of working for a bank. I began as a teller, but first I was required to go to teller training. This is where we were taught policies, procedures, balancing our drawer and effective ways to communicate with our customers. In addition to learning these very important aspects of banking during our training, we handled a lot of money.
You might think it was Monopoly money, but it was the real thing. Over and over, they had us inspect it, rub it between our fingers to learn the texture and feel, and then we were tested on its authenticity. Studying the real thing during that training period and into my years in banking gave me the ability to immediately detect by touch and sight whether someone was passing me a counterfeit bill. It was only by studying the real thing that I learned this critical skill.
How about the way we have learned to live our lives? Have we studied the Scriptures or been taught by a counterfeit? After being deceived, I learned that the only way to know the real thing is to study the real thing. Knowing the real thing (Truth) empowers us to know the counterfeits! And this my friends is critical to our relationships and a life well lived.
Discovery of the Truth is where our health and healing begin! If you haven’t spent time studying the real thing, it’s never too late. It’s truly amazing what can happen when you know immediately what is real or counterfeit.
- The counterfeit will be hidden between the real thing
- The counterfeit will be so close to the real thing you can miss it
- The counterfeit will leave you with less than what you started with
What will you do the next time someone hands you a counterfeit? Are you going to rebuke it knowing it’s not the real thing or accept it and suffer?
There are many counterfeits when it comes to relationships. Who can you trust? How can you know for sure? Knowing Jesus is your first step. If you want to learn more about how to choose the real thing, we can help.
‘Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security.” – Jeremiah 33:6
